What's included in a pool opening service?
The services included depend on the package you choose. A Full Pool Opening includes winter cover removal and cleaning, while both opening options include equipment preparation, start-up and testing, installation of return fittings and accessories, and circulation system start-up by an experienced senior service technician.
What's the difference between Full Pool Opening and Equipment Start-Up?
Full Pool Opening includes the removal and cleaning of winter cover. Equipment Start-Up is designed for homeowners who remove their own cover but want an experienced senior service technician to prepare, start, and test the pool equipment.
When should I schedule my pool opening?
We recommend scheduling your pool opening approximately two weeks before you plan to begin swimming. This provides time for the pool to circulate, clear, and be professionally balanced, while also allowing time to address any unexpected equipment repairs or water quality issues before you plan to use the pool.
Booking early also provides the greatest selection of appointment dates during our busiest spring season.
Do I need to be home during the service?
In most cases, no. As long as technicians have access to the pool area, equipment, and a water source, service can be completed without the homeowner present.
Why isn't my pool clear immediately after opening?
Cloudy or discoloured water after a pool opening is normal. How quickly your pool clears depends on several factors, including how long the pool has been closed, the type of winter cover used, and the condition of the water when the pool was closed in the fall.
Once the pool is circulating, properly filtered, and the water chemistry has been balanced, most pools will gradually become clear within 24-48 hours. Pools with heavier debris, poor water chemistry, or algae growth may require additional cleaning, balancing, or vacuuming before they are fully swim-ready.
Should I schedule maintenance after my pool opening?
Professional weekly pool maintenance helps keep your water clean, balanced, and ready to enjoy throughout the swimming season. It also includes routine cleaning, visual equipment inspections, and professional water testing to help maintain proper water chemistry.
How long does a pool opening take?
A Full Pool Opening is typically completed over two business days. The first visit focuses on removing the cover and cleaning the area around the pool, while the second visit is completed by an experienced senior service technician who performs the equipment preparation, start-up, and testing.
Why doesn't Ultimate Pool Service start my heater?
For safety and regulatory compliance, pool heaters should only be started and serviced by a licensed gas technician. After your pool opening has been completed, we'll provide the contact information for licensed gas fitters who can safely start and inspect your heater.
